The Council advised that in the lead-up to these projects, officers from the estates team undertook engagement sessions with the school communities which included parents, staff and children on all design aspects of the schools which included the proposal to introduce
gender neutral toilets. Feedback was positive from these sessions and the proposals progressed. In all cases, the design of the toilets will provide the flexibility to the school management team to utilise the toilet areas as fully unisex, partially unisex, or single sex toilets. The Council also advised that within the wider existing estate, however, there are
some schools which have been operating unisex, mixed gender toilets for some time, and we do not hold records of the type and nature of any engagement or consultation that was undertaken at the time.
what has the authority’s Building Standards and Public Safety Department calculated as the number of sanitary provisions required for the school, please include a numbered breakdown of WC’s, Urinals and Wash Hand Basins separately, for girls and boys.
Accordingly we are unable to comply with this part of your request. This is because the number of sanitary facilities are calculated as a total, not split by gender.
