I welcome today’s (20/6/19) Ministerial statement from Cabinet Secretary Shirley Anne Somerville in the Scottish Parliament on the update on Scottish Government Review of the 2004 Gender Recognition Act.

I look forward to reading the detailed plans on how we as a country can improve the lives of trans people without negatively impacting the rights of women & girls.

It may turn out to be the case that Scotland is indeed leading the way for legal gender recognition, but just not in the way as was originally intended by the Scottish Government.

Upholding women’s sex based rights whilst reforming this law would be a ground breaking achievement!
